Inflamed gums: causes and complications
Inflamed and sensitive red-purple gums indicate that you should consult the dentist. One of the most common causes that lead to the appearance of inflamed gums is failure to follow the correct tooth brushing techniques and therefore improper oral hygiene. Bacterial plaque must be removed daily by proper brushing, otherwise tartar appears. It leads to inflamed gums, bad breath and tooth decay.

Inflamed gums, causes and complications.
Inflamed gums are a common problem known as Gingivitis. This occurs when bacteria and plaque build up on the teeth and gums, causing inflammation.
The most common signs include redness, swelling of the gums, bleeding when brushing and bad breath. Many times these symptoms are ignored, but they indicate that oral health is affected.
The main cause is insufficient or incorrect oral hygiene. Brushing too infrequently, not flossing, or aggressive brushing can contribute to inflammation. Also, smoking, hormonal imbalances or certain vitamin deficiencies can aggravate the problem.
If not treated in time, gingivitis can develop into a more serious condition called Periodontitis. This affects the supporting tissues of the teeth and can, over time, lead to receding gums, tooth mobility and even tooth loss.
Prevention is essential and consists in maintaining correct oral hygiene: brushing twice a day, using dental floss and regular visits to the dentist for check-ups and scaling.
Bleeding gums is not normal and should not be ignored, it is the first sign that the gums need attention.
