Tooth brushing is the cornerstone of oral hygiene, but many of us perform it incorrectly or insufficiently. Effective brushing can prevent tooth decay, gum disease, and halena (bad breath) problems.
The correct technique involves gentle circular movements at a 45-degree angle to the gum line. Don't press too hard—excessive pressure can damage the enamel and irritate the gums. Brushing should last at least 2 minutes, twice a day.
Choose a toothbrush with soft or medium bristles and a small head that can easily reach all areas of the mouth. Electric toothbrushes with oscillating motion are particularly effective, with studies showing a 21% greater reduction in plaque compared to manual toothbrushes.
Don't forget the language! Bacteria accumulate on the surface of the tongue and contribute to bad breath. Gently brush your tongue from the back to the tip or use a dedicated tongue cleaner.
Replace the brush every 3 months or when you notice that the bristles are worn. A brush with deformed bristles no longer cleans effectively and can become a breeding ground for bacteria.
